Finding sites can be a time consuming process and sometimes it is difficult to know where to start. There are services such as SpeedieBlogger and MyBlogGuest that you can join for free and post requests for places to add content to or accept content from – but you maybe feel you want to go it alone to start with.

If this is the case, your be first port of call is Google. Use Google to hunt out a number of potential sites and then contact them directly via email to see if they accept content. The easiest way to find these sites it to use the keyword you wish to rank for and then add some phrases such as:

guest writer

guest blog post writer

submit post

submit content

submit blog article

add article

add blog post

add content

So for example if you wanted to use dating as the keyword, you could use “dating add article” or “dating submit content” to find sites which could be good targets to approach.

As you will start to see this is not a quick process but one that can drive a lot of traffic and boost your search engine results if you put the effort in.

Getting places to find in order to have content published is one part of the equation, the other is actually writing the content. Now you may find that the blog or site itself will ask you for something specific, or maybe they will just give you carte blance to write whatever you feel.

If you need ideas for content you could:

Setup Google News Alerts to see what is going on in your industry

Visit LinkedIn Answers and see the types of questions being asked – and peek at the answers too for ideas

Look at what your current customers are asking you or your support team

Have a look at your competitors websites or industry sites and see what they are writing about

For content to be published it is always easier to try and write something fairly evergreen try not to mention exact pricing as it will date quickly and if someone finds the post in 6 months time and tries to act on the info – it can be annoying for the visitor. That said if you do you pricing or product info make sure you put a pricing correct at date statement, just to give the content some relevance.

It is a good idea to try and build a generic list of articles in a article bank so you can simply pick one as a base and make some amends to fit the site you will be submitting it to.

Failing that, if you don’t have the time, you could employ a writer to prepare a bunch of content that you can then use. If you make a committment for say 2 posts a month you could easily find someone to werite 24 articles for you in one go then you simply use those. The rewards of inbound links and direct traffic will more than pay you back over time.

Content syndication is a great way to drive relevant, contextual links back to you site in order to improve your search engine rankings. One of the less used techniques is writing and sharing original and unique content with other sites and blogs. We are not talking about article syndication where you submit content to article directories but finding relevant sites in your given niche.

Writing content specifically for one site is seen by many as a waste of time as it will only add one or maybe 2 links and people, being people thing that it is volume that counts.

That said, we have found writing content for a blog or site is a great way to add a quality link and it is a link that can drive a lot of direct traffic.

Finding places where you can add content can be hard work, so we set up SpeedieBlogger as a way of advertising for content or advertising that you can write content.

Blog guest posts are a great way to:

increase your exposure on another blog site;

obtain backlinks to your site for ranking purposes;

increase your own site readership.

It can also be a great way to get content written for your own blog too as you can set up a guest blog post section or category on your site and have other bloggers provide you with uniquely written content.

It can truly be a win-win.

The key to any of this really is finding good quality blog writers and/or sites to get your own content featured on.

While we would like to think you have signed up with us, here are a couple more ideas for you to attract guest posts positions or receive content.

Add a page on your site asking or offering unique content for your site

Add requests or offers on relevant forums

Post some classified ads on some of the webmaster or affiliate forums

A quick tip though, if you are offering content out make sure that it is good, unique stuff (don;pt use existing site copy or respun rubbish) and also try to have some prepared in advance so you can get the content to bloggers quickly. You can be surprised how many people could want your content.

If you haven’t signed up with us yet – please do: Join Us
